Felons need more than a miracle to win. They need society to show mercy.
Punishment does not increase mental stability nor reduce the effects of trauma and exposure to poverty. Prisons and jails do not make people mentally healthy. Incarceration does not address addiction or substance use disorders. The criminal justice system needs to start focusing on radical education and radical vocational training. A new focus will make sure the incarcerated individual comes out prepared and ready to take on the world.
